Hi all just wanted to make this thread to get to know people's story about being a CNA/PCT/LVN/RN. I currently work as a Patient Care Technician in Dialysis been at my job for a little under a year and I love my job and am planning on becoming an RN in the near future. I am a bilingual English & Spanish speaker, I love helping my pt's out whether it's my pt or not, I am grateful to be working with awesome Techs and RN's, and utilizing my spanish speaking to our hispanic patients and helping translate for Pt's and other teammates. I have learned so much on this job and feel like I'm a valuable employee and assett, I used to be so scared of cannulating pts but now I do it with confidence. I would suggest to anyone that wants to get into nursing to be a PCT Its hard work but it's worth the experience and you learn so much from being a Tech :) reply with your experiences I'd love to read yours!

You really sound good at your job. Good luck with your nursing career plans. I'm sure you'll be a great nurse.
Thanks for the words! I really appreciate that. So how did you get into your nursing and where you are right now in your career?
I wanted to be a nurse when I was a kid. Was a Candy Striper (teen volunteer in the hospital).
So, after high school, I went to one of the best nursing programs in the US. After graduation, I wanted to work in OR and I did. But, after a relocation, could not find a position in the OR and took one in OB. So, long story short, that led to becoming an OB-GYN Nurse Practitioner. Later, I went on and became a Family Nurse Practitioner and absolutely loved ED/trauma, etc. I have always loved paperwork/legal aspects of nursing, etc. (I know, I'm odd :) ) and became a Legal Nurse Consultant. Education, however, is my real love.
So, my career has taken many twists/turns.
Where are you considering going to nursing school?

Im thinking of going into dialysis as a PCT. What type of hours do you work? Are they set ours? Are you full-time or part-time?
That's an awesome experience and story! I'm planning on going to LBCC for pre Reqs and nursing school
I wk three 12 hr shifts they're set hours but for me sometimes I offer to take some overtime so I end up working 14-18 hr shifts in occasions not all the time. I am fulltime. You should be a PCT It's an awesome job and experience
Thank you. I am a CPCT and Have been working as a CNA for over a year now at a Veterans Home but I want to do more and get more exsperience. Just trying to see what route to go after I have my baby next month.
