Questions about LSUHSC CARE program

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I am interested in applying for the CARE accelerated program for next fall, but I have a few questions/concerns. If anyone with experience with this program could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

First of all, it seems like there aren't many spots so it's competitive. Is there a way to apply for that and the traditional program at the same time so if I don't get a spot in CARE I don't have to wait a semester to be an LSU student?

Also, the application information says to include all college transcripts, but I've been told they calculate gpa based on the prereqs only. I took physics and made an A and chemistry and made a C, and either of these classes could satisfy the physical science prereq. Will they automatically pick the higher one or what?

Basically I really really want to be in this program, I took all of my prereqs at LSU in baton rouge and I meet all of the requirements. But the idea of risking the more competitive program instead of the longer but I-feel-better-about-my-chances traditional program terrifies me.

What should I do?

If they take my highest grades for prereqs I have a 3.7 and I already have A&P and Abnormal Psych. Thanks for any advice anyone!

You potentially *could* submit 2 separate applications for both programs, but it will be costly and you have to write a compelling essay as to why you want to be in each program. Also you will have to take the HESI for traditional program. In my case they accepted the highest grade for each pre-req category. You can submit your unofficial transcripts to the advisor and have them evaluated before applying.
