losing hope in nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am so desperate to get into nursing school and I have lost all pacience. I applied to UNC-CH may 2012 cohort and got rejected i guess i shouldnt have put all my eggs into one basket but that was my only choice knowing I can not afford to go to duke or leave home for college. My other options are NCCU which has a huge process to get into I have to take 7 more classes!!!! after getting my aa's degree from dtech that is just ridiculous. My other option is going back to dtech and gettin my RN there but I have worked halfway through to get my bsn. I am currently thinking of retrying for UNC may 2013 and work at NCCU's brigde program+ 3 extra courses for fall 2013. I feel I am going to graduate when am 30 yrs. old (am 23)!!!!! I just need some hope and want to know if anyone is going through or went through something similiar. Some advice from those that made it, got in, or anything. At this point I feel lost :(

A BSN is definitely benificial, as many employers (at least in IL) either require or give preferance to RNs with this degree. ALthough I now way look down on Associate's prepared nurses - once you've passed boards, an RN is an RN - I truly believe that it will only help you in your career, and you seem dedicated to both the profession and obtaining a good education.

If you're applying for fall 2013, maybe take some of those extra courses from your community college during the summer. Also, perhaps you can apply for some scholarships that can help you afford other schools. This way, you won't have to depend on only one choice. There are many need-based scholarships as well as merit-based, and many merit-based scholarships give preference to those who demonstrate financial need. Also, most (if not all) colleges/universities will give you some sort of scholarship for your GPA at your previous school (at least, this is how it worked for every college I applied to, and the same can be said for those that friends have applied to).

If you find that acceptance into a BSN program is simply not happening right now, don't give up! You CAN make it happen! Try getting the RN and getting a job at a respected hospital. Many employers will offer some sort of reimburstmant plan for going back to school, because BSN prepared nurses are beneficial for them.

if you give up, then that just makes it easier for the next person to get into nursing school. Things don't always come easy. You have to fight for your dreams.

take a deep breath, if this is what you love, put your mind to it and you WILL get through this. Good Luck, be positive!

Age means nothing.... don't worry about how long it may take you to get to your final destination. The important part is the journey!
