Anyone out there applying/applied to Los Medanos for Fall 2019??? If so, with how many points since it's not lottery anymore?

Sorry, I got 85 points including my TEAS. For the first part I had a total of 65 points.

Oh okay I see. Those a really good scores. Thank you again for replying. So, what was your nursing school experience at LMC like? I have a daughter, so I know it will be a challenge for me as a parent (if I am accepted). I am only applying to LMC because of certain circumstances, which weakens my chances of getting into nursing school sooner, but it's better than not applying to any schools. Thankfully due to the merit based point system application process and counselors, I can find ways to increase my chances if I don't get in this year. What advice would you give to a first semester nursing student?

No problem. It has been hard to be honest but it is doable. There is a lot of information thrown at us for each class and we have a test each week, so it can be very overwhelming. However, even though it is overwhelming, I have been loving the faculty and how much I am learning in clincals. We are lucky to start clinicals our first semester, which gave me hands on experience right away. The professors want to help the students which is something I really appreciate.

Most of my class are parents, and they are doing great in the program.

It’s okay to only apply for one school. I did that as well. LMC did turn me down 3 times, but that was because of the lottery system. It wasn’t until the program changed to merit based that I was able to get it. Just try to hit as much points as you can from the list.

Advice I would give for first years are getting a planner (This will help to not procrastinate), Record lectures, either print or have the PowerPoint on your computer when going to lecture, telling yourself it’s okay to not always get A’s on assignments or tests, and to be flexible. What I am noticing about nursing school and nursing in general is you sometimes have to go with the flow. Also, a big thing is utilize YouTube. YouTube is a really great resource. They have tons of videos on nursing material. Some channels I recommend are simple nursing, registered nurse RN, and osmosis.

I hope that helps!

Thank you so much for all this information, its all very helpful and I will definitely hold on to your advice when and if I get into the program. I am more hopeful when I get some feedback and advice like you have given me. I really appreciate it. Congrats again on finishing this year.

Same here and I’m #3 on the list so I’m thinking most likely they haven’t reached out to any alternates yet.

Hi there! I came across this post and wanted to ask you a few things. You got had a 45 in phase 1 and a 81 in phase 2? were you asked to go to phase 2 or had you previously taken the TEAS? so after both phases you were number 3 from the top of the alternate list? do you know how many people in the 2019 fall semester class were alternates? I just applied for fall 2020 LMC ADN and just wondering about my chances. I seen you also said the head of the nursing department had said they went through the entire alternate list for the 3 most previous years.
I have a 45 and counselors have been telling me my chances are not great, so that's why I am asking.

Hi there, I applied 2018 and I am graduating this May from the RN program.

- I was not an alternate
- Total points: 85 ( the only points I was not eligible for was military and work experience)

- TEAS Score: 80

If you have anymore questions I can try my best to answer. Good luck!

So if you go to LMC nursing website, you'll find the nursing handbook. They changed the application process from lottery to a point system. You'll find all the info you need in the handbook. Do as much research now as you can about what you need to do. It's important to get A's in the science courses. It's important to get A's in Anatomy and Physiology especially since they are 5 unit courses and it makes a difference in points.
