Hello,
I am working on my RN to BSN in Los Angeles. I work in a ER in downtown LA. I need to find a preceptor in case management or risk management for 40 hours this fall for my final class. I had to drop out of the class this semester cause I couldn't find a preceptor. My college is online and based in Kansas so the Hospital I work at would not let me do my preceptorship there.
Does anyone have a lead on where I could find a preceptor? Or even better are there any RN's in LA that work in one of those fields who would precept me this fall for 40 hours?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Dan

Sorry you're facing this difficulty, but you're not alone. In my part of the country, most organizations do not permit any 'one off' student rotations in their facilities due to the associated liability and expense. My organization only works with programs with whom they have a contractual arrangement. This also applies to "shadowing" requests. The only exceptions are for students that are employed by that organization.
This practice has become so widespread that I am really surprised that the online schools are still telling prospective students "very convenient, you can do clinicals/practicums at locations that you choose" rather than providing accurate information. Schools need to take responsibility for ensuring the availability of practicum sites rather than leaving students in a bind like this.
