What should I study for the LA county entrance exam? HELP!!!!

Well I wish you good luck and hopefully we get what we want, and hopefully we can be classmates. bye

Hey blue4thebeach wondering how did the exam go? Hope for your response.

Hi Joanna!

Test was ok. I strongly recommend looking over fractions and basic algebra for the math. Of the 4 sections, only the main math one concerns me. I blanked on how to divide fractions and how to do larger algebraic computations that included fractions. If there was more time, I could have figured it out, but that's the one test that I was still finishing problems when they called time.

We were able to fill out a self addressed envelope so that they will mail us our results - takes 4 weeks to receive them, so I'm going to be waiting at least another 2 weeks. The wait itself is killer.

When do you take the test? I recommend getting a study book (like the TEAS study books) and review the math questions for sure.

Good luck!!

Hello Blue

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually checked out from the library the SAT study guide and math is what I have been concentrating. How was the Critical Thinking part? Is there a lot of vocabulary? I received a package from LAC yesterday and it stated that the test takes 4 to 5 hours does it really take that long? sorry I guess I am nervous I am asking to many questions. Thanks again for the info.

Joa

No worries! Wish I'd been able to ask them before my test!

Yes, expect to be there until 12:30 or 1pm (maybe bring a small snack in your purse). It takes about an hour or more for them to check you in, register each (they check ID) and go through the instructions.

If you're reviewing the SAT study guide, you'll be fine. The vocab was relatively easy - the only word I didn't immediately recognize was taciturn. The reading comprehension was pretty straightforward too. You read a couple paragraphs and then answer questions about the paragraph. The math concepts was ok too... basics mostly.

For math, know how to figure the area of a rectangle, fractions, "10 to the power of" questions, basic algebra [ (5x-y)(3x+y) ] is an example I can think of. You can't use a calculator either, so be prepared to do everything by hand or in your head. The math test (I think) was 50 questions in 35 minutes... so I was a little freaked that I didn't have time at the end to go back and reconsider the questions that worried me.

You should do really well if you study using the SAT book. I wish I'd done that!! Just remember to breath though. lol... You are going to do GREAT!!

Good luck!
