Hello,
I am a college student currently in the process of applying to nursing schools. I know I have a long road ahead of me, but eventually I would like to become a CNM. I live in the Chicago area and am a regular volunteer at Illinois Masonic. I would love the opportunity to volunteer with a CNM. Does anyone know of any opportunities in the area?
Thanks!
Kalah

Hi Kalah!
I don't know about midwives in that area but I would recommend just googling it and calling around. Midwives tend to be enthusiastic teachers, very willing to let an aspiring midwife shadow/volunteer. If you're interested in out of hospital birth (home birth or freestanding birth centers) I recommend you look through the forums at mothering.com. There are often a lot of recommendations for home birth CNMs or even just more holistically minded hospital CNMs.

Thank you! That is great advice! I will do that.

Hey there. I agree with midwifetobe. I literally just googled midwives and started emailing to see if they had any volunteer or job opportunities. I've heard there are a ton of CNM's in the chicago area so hopefully you will be successful!

Try the "Find a Midwife" page on the ACNM website, too. Find a midwife
