Moved to San Antonio from Illinois. Due to move, have been out of work since March 2013. I was working in an office setting (pediatrics then family practice) for the last 5 years, which seems to be more common for RNs in the Chicago suburbs. I am not finding much in the way of office RN positions here. Earned BSN and took NCLEX in 2008. Someone at a Methodist Healthcare job fair suggested I apply for a RN residency position, which I did, but I don't know that I have a chance competing against new grads. Would it be beneficial to take a RN refresher, or just keep looking for jobs? Any advice appreciated!

I would look at small cities out side of San Antonio. My best friend who is a BSN new grad applied to many positions in San Antonio, got two interviews but no job. She has applied to countless jobs.

What school did your friend go to? Is it really that bad to find a job?
She attended TAMUCC & yes it is. She didn't get into a residency or any interviews for general open positions. She went to a job fair for Methodist yesterday so we'll see how that turns out.

maybe try a contractor job with the military. pay is great, hours are pretty good, the only thing is job security.
