Hello Everyone!
A friend of mine just found out that she was pregnant. She was interested in having a midwife for her prenatal care and delivery. Unfortunately, we are unable to find one in the yellow pages. Are there any midwifes out there in the Mississippi area? If so please respond. Also, a quick question. If a midwife is used does that mean that the mother will not be able to use any form of anesthesia? My friend was concerned about that. I know that she could get an independent to come in during the process, but is there anything that the midwife alone could do to ease the pain if she was trying to cut down the costs on hiring an anesthesiologist or CRNA.
Thanks everyone for your time.....:)

You can do a search at the following address http://www.midwife.org/find/
As for anesthesia, only an MDA or CRNA can do it. But there are techniques that can be used to ease the pain/help cope with the pain as well as drugs that a CNM can administer. Most CNM's and LM's have tons of resources for this. Also, if she is planning a homebirth she cannot have anesthesia. You must be in a hospital for that.

Thanks a lot! I was able to find two good contacts. You've been a big help!:)
Glad to help anyone who is thinking of using a midwife. I had my 3 kids with one and they are great.

Also, go online and go to the ACNM website. They have a finder too. ACNM is American College of Nurse MIdwifery.
Actually that is the ACNM link.
