Looking into a move to Leesburg, FL

U.S.A. Florida

Published

My family and I are thinking about a move to Leesburg, FL. We like that its close to The Villages, Orlando, and not too far from Tampa. Currently I am an LPN and she is a PT. I have 8 months left until I sit for my RN boards. Question is: if anyone is from the area would you mind telling me a little bit about it, what to expect, how the job market is and cost of living/pay?

Thanks :)

LPN pay sucks here in central Florida ($16-17/hr) IF you can get work. Leesburg is Okay, cost of living is NOT cheap. Housing in area is expensive, even in MH parks. NEW RNs have a terrible time getting jobs. Your wife as a PT will end up supporting you.

Leesburg and the general vicinity is a somewhat low socioeconomic area. Not too many homeless per se, but the area is a bit run down and there isn't much to offer culturally. It is actually a cheaper place to live as compared to the metro Orlando area. Don't be expecting any decent shopping other than walmart. And if you're a Starbucks fiend, you'll be out of luck.

If you're looking for country living, and want to be close to the villages, I would suggest you look into unincorporated Sumter county, outside the city of Wildwood or in the town of Oxford. Those areas are quite cheap and place you in between Leesburg and the Villages.

If you have any more questions let me know. I grew up in north east Lake county and just finished working a year and a half as a paramedic in Wildwood and transported my patients equally between Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Village Regional Hospital.
