I have only been there for 11 months so I would not be eligible for pay out option until after 12 months and I have accumulated 163 hours of PTO right now.

I currently work in an acute rehab setting but have not been happy with my job (not sure if its burn out or the staffing grid that our facility staffs by). Anywho - I recently was offered a gig at another hospital working med-surg, the pay is a bit less, hours are the same 3(12). Do I leave my current job, lose my PTO and sick pay that I have vested and take less money for a job in med surg or do I stick it out where I am currently at? In less than 2 years I hope to be finished with NP and moving on in my career - so Im leaning towards staying put for simplicity sake...Am I right in this choice?

So I just accepted a full time night shift at a local hospital on Med/tele and i week into classroom orientation another local hospital called and offered me a full time day shift position on medical observation unit. I prefer days but did not know I was going to get this job offer so I took the only one available to me at the time, being the full time nights. Since I have only worked one week, all classroom training/orientation, what are my professional obligations as far as giving notice. I am going to contact them either way to let them know I am taking a position with another hospital but would I be required to give a two week notice since I have not even started my floor orientation with a preceptor yet? Ok, I have recently been accussed of being sexually inappropriate amongst my peers. Only problem is, I have not. I had one women who, for whatever reason, decided to start these rumors about me and take it to HR. Now, this woman has a reputation for stabbing people in the back and known for making up stuff. So HR completed their investigation, I was suspended and then returned to work and cleared investigation. None of my coworkers felt I was inappropriate. But people whisper now. Just recently they hired a new receptionist, she is 18 years of age. The other day she asked me if I would be interested in going on a date with her. I told her I was flattered but politely said no, I am married and much too old for you. She proceeded to tell me she liked married men and attempted to get me into a discussion about sex. I just walked away from her. Now HR has me under investigation again because this young girl is saying I discussed sexual activity with her and tried to convince her to have sex with me, when in fact it was quite the opposite. I'm really getting tired of all these false allegation, and have now put in my two weeks notice. Are there any other male nurses out there that this has happened to? How have you handled it?

I know stealing things is wrong. I did know when I did it that it was wrong. I did it to impress my peers. I do not deny that its wrong. But I can tell you that at that time, I was in highschool and never once thought about careers or what I wanted to be and if my actions would affect my future. As teenagers, we all tend to think we are invincible and that our actions will not hurt us. I did actually speak with a lawyer today and found that I can seek to get it off my record, just that its going to take some time, some money, and again, the possibility of obtaining it. **Worth noting that this would have never been on my record if I did not come forward as a kid with a conscience and turn myself in. I wanted to accept responsibility. It's just aggravating to continue paying for this one minute act 14 years later... Its not like I physically hurt anyone, abused, drug-related, or anything of the sort.

I have been an LPN for almost 6 months now working in a Post Acute floor in Kansas. I have decided to head back and finish my clinicals for my RN through an accelerated option. So I am changing to PRN instead of full-time. Today I thought I would stop by this really nice, new, big facility and see if they were hiring. I filled out a 2 hour long application and got an on-the-spot interview. My interview lasted 45 minutes and I got a tour of the rehab wing that I would be working in...I was offered the PRN position as long as Corporate ok'd it for me to work there. You see, in 1998 I stole a few things as a teenager (17) and was charged as an adult. So it has always been on my record as a felony. Turns out even though the DON of the facility wanted to hire me, Corporate said NO! This is the 6th time in the last month this has happened. On every interview I go on, they love me! they can tell I am a good person, kind-hearted, and have the BEST interest for my patients...but then these corporate people ax my contract before it begins. I disclose everything and I am very honest about it. It was a one time thing, and it was stupid...Why are people so hard at forgiving others? I'm a GOOD person, why does this keep happening? I'm wondering at this point if its even worth going on in the field of nursing any longer? I love taking care of people, I love helping them recover from fx/wounds/sickness/etc. I love seeing my pts go home! Why does it always have to be this hard for a good male nurse who made a teenage mistake (nonviolent) to get ahead in his nursing career?

My family and I are thinking about a move to Leesburg, FL. We like that its close to The Villages, Orlando, and not too far from Tampa. Currently I am an LPN and she is a PT. I have 8 months left until I sit for my RN boards. Question is: if anyone is from the area would you mind telling me a little bit about it, what to expect, how the job market is and cost of living/pay? Thanks :)

Hello! So I just recently got my license and this is going to be my first time ever working in the field of nursing, other than my clinicals. I accepted a full time position as a LPN Nurse Supervisor for a Post Acute wing in a LTC facility. I have been on the job for almost two weeks. Running the cart for both MAR and TAR is not a problem. I usually have 12 patients and can get it all done within my 8 hour shift...However, all the paperwork, computer work and constantly having to assess and supervise my aides is really taking a toll. I do have previous supervisor experience in hospitality but its nothing like this. I love all the patient care experience I am getting in Post Acute but I have found it extremely difficult to get to all the documenting, calling PO's, ordering labs, assessing new admins, and making sure my aides are doing their job. I think I can do this but I have no previous experience with doing any of this paperwork, calling docs, labs, etc and as of yet, I have not received any training on how to do so. This place was supposed to give me orientation but my first day of orientation was with a nurse who had not worked in post acute for over a year, the second day was spent passing meds only, and every day since I have just been told to treat and pass meds... Should I consider looking elsewhere, where I can actually go through an orientation process so I can learn how to do the things that are not being taught to me here or am I being unreasonable?

I just wanted to take a moment to share my story: When I was 18 years old I took it upon myself to walk into an open garage and take an item that did not belong to me. A few days later, I turned myself in and was charged with the felony of burglary. I plead guilty and went to a boot camp for first time non-violent offense. This was done in 1999. Today is 2011. I have gotten my AA degree, a Bachelors degree, and now just finished my practical nursing certificate. By the way, I had no problem getting into a nursing school or clinicals with this felony on my background. Primarily due to length of time since the incident. I finished the program and sent in my application to the board of nursing. In a few days I got my ATT to take my boards. I studied for a week and took them, and passed! But a license did not come. I called the state board of nursing, worried that my felony was preventing me from getting a license after all that hard work. I was told the process just takes a long time due to all the investigating that is required. 3 weeks later I received a call from the board of nursing; I was granted licensure! My license does not have any probation or restrictions, it is a full blown, valid and active license! I wanted to share this for those of you out there that have made a mistake in their past that there is hope out there for us. Just because I made that mistake 12 years ago does not make me a bad person today. Also, another bit of hope, I found a job within 6 days of getting my license! I disclosed my past to them and they were just so impressed with my character/personality that it did not matter to them. I was offered a job that exceeded my salary expectations! As a new grad of LPN, I am making a salary that is at the top of what LPN's make! I also got in to work days and in the field that I wanted into. So do not listen to those who tell you that there is no hope that you will ever get a license to be a nurse. Every applicant is reviewed on an individual basis. Length of time since the crime and nature of the crime are considered... Thanks

It took a few weeks to get my ATT, everything is marked as completed on my nursing application checklist on the BON website except for approved by legal. Thats what they said can take so long and they dont begin that process until after everything else is complete.

Yes, I called them. I got quite an earful from them when I called. It was explained to me that due to budget cut backs that they only have one person, the one that I talked to, who actually reviews/investigates each application package. She said that my application will be reviewed next week and then the investigation/background part begins. She said that can take another 6 weeks. She stated that if I was unhappy about that, I can join the other 400 applicants she needs to review and contact the states representative to increase the BON budget. My application has been with the BON for over a month, but my NCLEX test reults were submitted one week ago.

OK, hypothetically: Lets say I passed my NCLEX and applied for licensure in a state that I completed school in. But the state has taken several weeks and still no official result on license status. I am now wishing to move to my home state and get my license there. Since the previous state is still in the process of reviewing my application, can I just go ahead and apply to the other state and have PearsonVue transfer my test results there or is that something that the other BON has to release? I am trying to go from KS to FL...and KS has had so many budget cut backs I was told on the phone that it may still be another 6 weeks before I get any result change from "pending". I really cannot afford to wait that long, especially when FL is a pretty quick turn around state. *PS...the Pearson Vue trick does work!

I recently finished LPN school and passed the NCLEX and when I go to the Kansas BON I see my license status as pending. Then when I click to view details it states: Completed Application Completed May/24/11 License Fee Completed May/25/11 Fingerprint Fee Completed May/25/11 Approved by Legal Unchecked Transcript from school of nursing Completed Jun/22/11 Passed NCLEX Completed Jun/22/11 Why is the "Approved by Legal" unchecked? I do have a past conviction, not a DUI/drug related/ or violence related felony and it was 12 years ago when I was 17 years old. I did disclose everything to them and sent them all the paperwork and a letter, etc... does this imply I am going to be denied or that they are simply still conducting an ivestigation? Please help...I have spent a lot of money and time going to school, getting good grades, and passing my NCLEX. Thanks
