I have been searching the internet for information on how to respond/treat a choking victim who is bed ridden and or in a wheel chair due to quadriplegia.
Can anyone help?!
Thanks for any information,

we were always taught to do the abdominal thrusts on a bed bound patient who is in a reclining position. The wheelchair patient we try to get our arms around from behind the wheelchair. Neither is perfect.

[banana]if the victim is unconscious, lying down, or too obese for the first aid provider to wrap their arms around, the person giving the heimlich manoeuvre positions rolls the victim onto their back and straddles the victim's hips. the heel of one hand is positioned against the victim's upper abdomen as described above. the other hand covers the fist, and, as above, directs it in a series until the victim's airway is clear.[/banana]

That was a terrific study guide. Could have used some of the information in the last place I worked. My plan is to do Home Health. This may be of use some day.
