Ive been a RN for 16 plus years, 11 with home care and 6 with group homes including teaching state HHA programs and supervising in field.please need advice on how to proceed furtherand what is now marketable out there.Do you need a masters or can you take certifications to move on?

What is it that you are wanting to do with your career -- where are you wanting to go, professionally? That will determine what your best next educational step would be.

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.

elkpark is right. Your next move should depend on the type of work you would like to do in the future. What types of jobs interest you?

Case management or some kind of own business with nursing? Not sure yet. I have great clinical skills want new and exciting and make even more money. Toted with practioner but not many openings??

jwagman I'm in the same boat, want to do something, just not sure WHAT! I'm doing home care now! I hear that new legislation is being passed also, that is requiring a PHD for APRN..at least here in CT it is  so all the more I feel pressured to make a decision! Having any luck? I have thought of going to the career center at UCONN-where I graduated from to see what they have for information or to suggest. Unfortunately they already have gotten rid of most of their Masters Programs except Clinical Nurse specialist I think. Let me know how its going for you and I'll try to do the same. I don't have much time to concentrate on it right now though, I'm in the sandwich generation and taking care of a sick mom, have a senior in high school and 2 adopted cuties 5 and 7 y.o.! take care.

love hugs and prayers
