Looking for DNP Program- Masters in non-MSN accepted

Published

Hello Fellow Nurses,

I am currently in a PhD in Nursing program, but I am realizing that I am more interested in teaching and in nursing practice instead of research. A DNP program may be a better fit, but I need a program that allows for a masters degree that is not a MSN (I have a masters in public health- MPH). I like the flexibility of an online program, but I am a bit worried if it will be taken seriously for faculty teaching roles in the future. I would love some recommendations! Thanks!

Not sure if you can do that. Do you have a BSN? You may be better off in an Ed.D program if you want to teach. I have an MA in teaching and it was not good enough. I have finished MSN (Informatics) but to teach at the University level, a doctorate (which includes, Ph.D, Ed.D and DNP) is pretty much the standard.

I think there are RN-DNP programs. Everything is becoming online. My school helped with clinical placement, some schools do not.

I have a BSN and an MPH, currently licensed, and working as a Nurse Educator.

then you should be able to get into a DNP program. Kind of the ideal situation!
