how long does it take you to leave work

Published

Say if you work from 11pm-7am when do you get to actually leave?

I agree with this. I often do get out 15-30 minutes late, but I would NOT stay an hour or more late on a regular basis. Working 2nd shift, I leave when I have gotten all of my residents in bed and changed - my shift is over at 10, I start my bedcheck at 9, and I make sure every resident is checked between 9 and 10. If that bedcheck takes me longer than an hour, no big deal.

Sometimes our residents get home from outings between 9 and 10. If I have more than 1 or 2 get home at that time, and that is going to put me behind on getting out, I will make sure they are laid down and not completely soaked or dirty, and tell the nurse and the 3rd shift aide, so that the 3rd shift aide can wash them up and put their night clothes on them.

I'm not going to get out of doing MY tasks so I can leave early, but I'm also not going to stay until there isn't a single thing left to be done, because if I did that, I would never leave...and there would be no point of having a 3rd shift aide, you know?

Same thing on the other shifts. You have to draw a line.
