Lonestar ADN -- Fall 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everyone,

I thought of strating this thread for all Lonestar ADN students like me. We all are taking HESI again with added versions..OMG...!!! Lets share our concerns through this thread. so who else is planning to take HESI in Jan or Fab?

I already took my Hesi, took it Monday.. 91 for my overall Reading, including vocab, grammar, reading.. I think that's how they calculate it? All of them together? But.. my score comes out to 11.65. My first choice is Tomball, then cy-fair & so on.. I am really nervous!! Sending my application on Monday.

Good luck to you!

Where are you applying?

I think it list on the paper for your english composite score. Well I took mine for UT. I got it mailed to North Harris. You divide your English Composite score by 25.

Out of my past experience, I would like to share the strategy that I have used finally, to get into the program. I have wasted my time and money as I was lost in the 'A' game, I meant "the acceptance game." It could be easily avoided if I would have followed my progress differently.

Here are some tips that will help hopefuls to get into nursing programs:

1. Donot only focus on your GPA, Try to get good grades like A's. Try not to repeat. Some schools like UT does not like repeats or withdraws.

2. Complete all of your pre-reqs and get Associate first. That way you would be exempt from TSI requirements.

3. Take all of your sciences at the end, that way they will be up to date. If I am not wrong, some institution do not accept science courses if they are older than 3 - 5 yrs, if you want to use then for BSN after completing your RN.

4. Take RNSG 1301 if college provides. Even though some Universities would not accept pharmacology from other institution as it is considered as upper division nursing course. You have nothing to loose taking this course again at the University because you will see pharmacology throughout the nursing program. As much as you practice pharmacology you will do good in NCLEX exam.

5. Most importantly, as soon as you finish your A&P take the HESI Test, that way it will be fresh in your brain. You will just need to refresh your memory by studying the guides. Use several guides from the library. Do not just depend on Evolve. Keep studying the Vocabulary when surfing the internet. Get a critical thinking for nursing and study that one if your Hesi require critical thinking portion.

6. Get a CNA licence and always have an active CPR. CNA certification shows your interest toward the program. This is your first step of Nursing.

7. Try to work or volunteer at Healthcare facilities even if it is PRN position. It will look good on your status and resume when applying for BSN.

6. Now, apply to several programs that is available and within in your choice list. Donot just count on one program. You will be putting yourself in huge risk. Apply for LVN, RN, BSN by using step by step method. You can proceed to nursing one step at a time or you may apply seperately, if you feel you are ready and complete.

7. Lastly, get used to with stress and time restraint. Stress will be your best friend for a while.

Hope this helps...:nurse: Good Luck!

Have you gotten a letter yet? I also have an 11.65 but 1st is Cyfair and 2nd is Tomball.

Yes, I got it on Monday. I was accepted at Tomball (: How about you? I heard Cy-fair isn't sending theirs out until next week so if you haven't gotten a letter from Tomball you were probably accepted at Cy-fair.

Lonestar Cy-fair Fall 2011 here I come! Congrats everyone:)

Hello fellow Hopefuls!

Congratulations on those of you that have already gotten accepted. I am applying at Cy Fair for the Spring Semester and I was looking for some advice.

I am taking A&P 2 at the moment and if I were to make a C in that class but have around 11.6-11.8 points, should I retake A&P2 before applying? Or could I have a chance in getting in with an 11.6-11.8 points assuming I make a 90+ on my HESI.

I would retake A&P since it is really dire to make sure you understand for the program bc they won't be going over anatomy terms & physiology.. but that's just my opinion. Other than that.. since they have cracking down on A&P scores were lower & some girls got in with high 10's & low 11's.. good luck!

Hi there everyone! Just wondering if anyone could tell me the Facebook page for our group? I'm having trouble finding it. Can't wait to meet everyone on July 13th!
