I am a new independent Legal Nurse Consultant working on my first case with an attorney whose office is located about 45 minutes away from my home. I have had one meeting with the lawyer and his client already. The attorney and I have agreed upon my hourly consulting fee for such meetings. My question though is is it appropriate for me to bill for my time going to the meeting in addition to the time at the meeting? I know this practice of "portal to portal" expense reimbursement is common in other consulting fields but is it industry standard for LNC's? Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Not an LNC, but isn't it standard (or, at least, prudent) to negotiate a written consulting agreement before taking on a case? If so, then that should stipulate the terms of billing.
