Linear Algebra?

Published

Hello,

Has anyone ever taken a university-level LINEAR ALGEBRA course? If so, what did you think of it? I do not meet the high school mathematics requirement for the nursing program I want to get into but it can be replaced by a three credit university-level algebra course and so far I've only found linear algebra which I'm really apprehensive of doing. :o

Thanks.

Yes, if I applied under regular admission and completed the algebra course, it would transfer to my Plan B program if my Plan A failed.

And yes, I believe there are college prep courses here in Canada but I don't think most high schools (in Alberta, anyway) offer them. College prep courses here where I live are offered at actual colleges... if that makes sense. I'm currently a high school student by correspondence (almost finished) and I DID take math but it was a different level of math that I can't use for the nursing program.

I really don't want to take the required grade 12 math course because the prerequisite to that course called Pure Mathematics 20 was difficult for me (well, some parts of it such as trigonometry) and I quit it even though I didn't do so bad on the other parts. I don't want to take it up again and am avoiding it... I'm looking for options and so far the only math option for both programs looks really bad. I'll most likely talk to someone at the college!

By the way, CritterLover, I did not take the diagnostic math assessment yet.

Linear Algebra and College Algebra have amost nothing to do with each other. I am a math geek - took Calc I my freshman year in high school. I was one class short of a math minor when I got my first degree, and linear algebra was the class I was too scared to take. At my school it had several prereqs, which I had taken already, and was also heavily computer-based - that was the part that scared me. 10 years ago I wasn't very computer savvy. It is a HIGH level math course, not a substitute for regular algebra.

Thanks for your input! What algebra course would you recommend?
