what is it like working for a renal corporation

Hello again, I posted last week regarding our unit being sold to a corporation and I do appreciate the responses but I do have more questions. Like can someone tell me what the working conditions are like and if you are happier working within the corporation than you were when it was hospital based, and is it true that the corportations usually pay their nurses more and the patients will recieve better care. Our unit is small and we are able to provide excellant patient care, and we are not very cost effective and Im afraid that the corportation will be geared more toward cutting costs than providing good patient care. Ive heard horror stories about big corporations taking over small dialysis units and turning them into nightmares. Anyone been there and done that?

I currently work for a large corporation, our unit was bought out a few years back. I can honestly say it has been better. The benefits of working for a larger corporation is the educational aspect. I feel I have better resources now than before. They are also paying for me to get my nursing degree and now we are merging with an even bigger corporation, I'm not too sure about this merger, the reputation is not that great.

Yep.

We WERE private.. doctor owned... just before I started where I am, nine years ago. We were bought out by a large corporation.

The prinmary concerns since then have been cost cutting #1.

A lot of advertising, making the company look good, etc., but little action behind the words and promises... especially when related to staff, be it ratios, pay, etc.

Some corporations are more staff friendly than others. Ours is not.

It's all about the $$.
