I am currently attending school to get my bachelors in nursing. I am still not sure what department i would like to work yet, but i do know my life long dream has been to work at Vanderbilt University. Is it hard to get a job at such a large research hospital? If anyone could help me please!:)

Hello--
I am a student at Jacksonville State in Alabama and have started looking at the job market. This summer (around june-Sept.) I moved just outside of nashville to live with a cousin who works at vandy. (I moved up just for the summer to see how I liked the area) This gave me the chance to talk to one of the recruters at the hosptial. From what I gather it is not all that hard to get a job there. One thing that my cousin liked about them is that they have one of the longest orientation periods out there. ( She is a retired air force inspector col. who has worked in nursing adm for the air force for 30 years thus she wanted the refresher). I will say that I would like to work there. However the pay is only fair for the area, not great, and they have the common staffing issues just like all the others out there.
PM me is you would like some contact info for Vandy.

Vandy is all about the name. I worked there 7 months and that was enough for me.

I live 4 hours away from Nashville in East Tennessee. I am always getting things in the mail from Vanderbilt about recruitment.

Hi Medgirl! I know they are desperate for RNs at the new children's hospital. It's beautiful and I think you would enjoy working there if peds is your interest. I do not think you will have trouble finding a job in any of the depts. Good luck!
