I was lucky enough to get a chance to interview with lij for a labor and delivery positon. I hear great things about lij and it's only 15 minutes from my house.

I'm already working in high risk postpartum elsewhere but wanted to end up working in labor and delivery as my end game.

I also had an interview with mount Sinai for mother baby position right around the same time as the lij interview. Mount Sinai is magnet and has a union but is an hour away from my house and I would have to relocate to the city for the job.

I was was wondering if anyone worked at either place and if you could provide me feedback on where you work and what you like/dislike about your job.

any help would be appreciated

I haven't worked at either facility myself, so I don't have very in-depth inside info, but I have colleagues that have worked at Mount Sinai in M/B and at LIJ in Queens (I assume you mean this one, and not North Shore LIJ) in L&D. Both have enormous volumes---about 6000-7000 deliveries per year, so the pace would be extremely hectic. At Mt. Sinai, my coworker said the nurse/patient ratios were pretty high. You would also be taking care of a large population of Orthodox Jewish women there (I'm not sure if you're already familiar with this group but there are numerous cultural practices to become acquainted with). I will say if you already live on LI, I wouldn't spend the money to move into NYC just to work at Sinai. You will definitely end up taking less home in the end, unless you have a place to stay there already that is cheap.

Thanks for the response. I chose lij in the end because it was closer.

I am thinking of moving to Long Island and was thinking of applying to LIJ.

How has your experience been so far?

Nurse to patient ratio? Colleagues? How is the salary, (if i may ask). Do they have a union?
