Why is lignocaine patch applied at intervals of 12hours?

Lidocaine remains in skin for next 12hrs post patch removal.

Up to three patches can be applied at one time...or can be cut to cover different painful areas too. 5% strength requires RX while 4% is available OTC ---not covered by most insurances ur less costly for self pay.

So if lignocaine is not removed, will the concentration persistently increase? If pain is controlled at such high, low interval, is it less efficient than having continuous pain control?
