Life in a hopital.

You remember clinicals from school? That, plus tons more charting, administrative skills, and learning health dept regulations. Oh, and the fact that there is no teacher hovering over you. Which is nice there is no hovering, but also nobody to stop you before you do something wrong. Just a ton more responsibility and work.

It depends on the person how long it takes to be comfortable, some say 6 mos, some say a year...

I thought preceptorship was a lot like when I started my job. Well, not the first preceptor I had because she just hovered and did't let me do anything. My second preceptor was great and had me do everything so I learned a lot more.

So preceptorship was like getting training on the floor of the unit. Also, in my head I could hear my nursing instructor ask me the questions that would get me thinking about my patient's condition, what labs would I expect, what meds would I expect to be ordered. It was great because all that nursing school stuff really works and gets you prepared for work! :lol2: And then there's still so much to do and learn that you never get bored or stand around poking thru the chart forever just reading. I like working in the hospital so much better than doing clinicals and making up nursing care plans.
