Lied to by MCCD aka "misinformation"

Published

A few months ago, I heard a rumor about my #1 choice of RN program from a strong source. I was advised that the hybrid evening part-time program at GCC was being eliminated because the grant was not going to come thru that normally funded the program. Even stronger evidence was the new nursing newsletter put out by MCCD that listed the program options and no longer listed the hybrid program at GCC.

This concerned me, because the hybrid program was my #1 choice. I was thinking of taking a new, better paying position at my current job, but would not be able to take the position if only the weekend day/pt option was available to me. I needed the hybrid program for this new position I wanted. So, I went down to GCC to get info. I spoke to an advisor in the enrollment center and was advised that the rumor was false. I was told that the person I was speaking to had "intimate knowledge of the nursing program" and "knew that wasn't true and not to worry at all". Satisfied and happy, I went about my day. That was about three months ago. I also took the new position.

Early this month, I heard the rumor again. I got really worried! This time, I heard the rumor while I was on campus in the nursing department!! I overhead a conversation going on while I was standing in the lobby. The convo appeared to be with one of the RN faculty and a student. Once again, I asked an advisor who assured me that the program was available. I took this info back to a buddy of mine who said that they had heard a rumor over on the Gateway CC campus that the GCC part time evening program was eliminated. To follow up again, I sent an email to the head RN advisor at GCC in the RN department and asked for answers. No respone. I emailed again two weeks later, no response.

Frustrated, I called the RN department at GCC today and advised that I was being given conflicting info and needed to know what was going on due to my scheduling needs. I was advised by GCC's top RN advisor (who hadn't emailed me back for two weeks) that the GCC Part time/evening/hybrid program was elimiated. I asked how long they have known about this and she said "a few months".

GRRRRRRR :angryfire I took another job based on misinformation or lies from a department who was too chicken to give real info for whatever reason. I have been waiting for an extended period of time for this nursing program and have essentially tried to schedule my life around to make it work. I am feeling angry and wonder if I want to even take a nursing program at a school that has been so unprofessional and not fourthcoming.

Wow, that is so frustrating and so high school. A week before they started accepting apps for the LPN program, they told me it is going to be first come first served, and guess what, it wasn't. However, I don't trust them.

Welcome to higher education! (i mean that with the uptmost sarcasm) I feel fo you guys. This is my second degree and it is not unusual for schools to change info, provide misinformation and string you along. But I will say that the nursing program is by far the worst major for this. If they ever gave accurate and concise info, there would not be so many posts on this board regarding school. It is ridiculous. I am so sick of everyone trying to convince you to give nursing a shot and the schools make it as difficult as possible. Wow I feel better...... BTW did you guys see the article in the AZ Republic saying ASU will be cutting their nursing program from 80 spots to 40 due to budget issues? hmmmmm :nono:
