Hello. I just graduated nursing school with my BSN. I have 2 previous charges - one in 2007 for unathorized use of property and one in 2008 for failure to display license plates. I was wondering what I need to do about applying for the NCLEX and licensure. I live in Ohio. Do I just get my fingerprints done for the application and let the board of nursing decide? Is there something special I have to do (e.g., certain form to fill out). I just have no idea!
I looked into getting the charges off my record. I spoke with an attorney a while back and he said that I was eligible for it, but I am a single mother and I just didn't have the money to spend on it. I found out you can actually fill out the forms and apply for it yourself, I'm just not sure I'd feel comfortable doing it on my own, since I really have no idea what I'd be doing! If the charges are going to get in the way of me getting my license or make it extremely hard, I will spend the money and get it done!
When I applied to nursing school, we had to get a background check. My charges came up and they asked for an "FBI Rap Sheet." I had to apply for it and it was sent to me and then I had to send it to my school. Once they reviewed that - it explained what my charges were and all that - I was accepted. They said they do that because they don't want us to go through nursing school and then not be able to get licensed. However, they don't guarantee that because they accepted us, the board of nursing will. So, I'm just worried and wonder what I should do!!
