Licensing?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here, recently passed my NCLEX and seeking my first job as an RN. My question is about WV licensing. The school I attended was in Virginia, and my license is in VA. I live right at the WV/VA line, so I'm currently applying for jobs in the area in both states. I am aware of the process of transferring my license to WV, however I do not know if I should start this process now in case I am offered a job in VA. I also don't want to not be considered for a position in WV because my license will not be in WV at the time of applying. Also since WV is not part of the compact states agreement, I believe I would forfeit my VA liscence should I transfer it. If anyone has any advice or experience with this, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you in advance, have a great day!

Welcome to the site

You will not forfeit your VA license if you get a license in WV. You can have as many licenses as you apply for as long as you maintain their requirements for renewal and pay any fees. If you can afford to get a WV license then I would start sooner rather than later

Thank you very much for your help!

I was licensed in MD and applied for my WV license. My WV license came through about a week after submitting the paperwork. I had no problems getting my WV license. I am in the same boat as you. Live in WV, MD license, but needed WV license for position here in WV.
