License w/ misdemeanor conviction theft .....HELP

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi I am currently an LVN student with a past. I have a conviction from about 11ys ago where I had community service and probation.

Well I was advised to call the Nursing board but of course they don't make decisions until you have passed the boards. He explained to me that it was something I had to decide and if I was turned down I could appeal and if I lost appeal again in 3yrs. I would like to continue to pursue my education and become a RN however I don't want to continue schooling and owe loans for a profession I ma can never enter. Please help!!!

I'm only looking for advice and if you know anyone with a background that has gotten to practice. If I posted on the wrong board, my apologies. I'm new to the board. Thanks.

By the way I am in California

We can't give legal advice, nor can we speak for any state's Board of Nursing.

Here is a link to a thread called: FAQ: Nursing Licensure With A Criminal History

https://allnurses.com/nursing-licensure-criminal/faq-nursing-licensure-163600.html#post3213943

And here's a helpful excerpt.

If you are a nursing student or are interested in becoming a nurse you need to contact your BON directly. You need to be completely candid with them as to the nature and disposition of the crimes. Each BON make a determination on a case by case basis and some are willing to issue a declarative statement in advance.

I hope you find what you're looking for.
