License Transfer - Need Your Help!

Hello everybody.

I am an ADN student who will be taking the NCLEX in North Carolina, where I go to school. I plan on moving to Virginia upon graduation and starting work there. How long after I take the NCLEX (and pass it) does it take for me to begin the paperwork and become licensed in Virginia so I can begin to work there?

I would appreciate anybody's experiences and/or opinions on this, just so I can know what to expect! :rolleyes:

You can access the Virginia nursing board website from this website and probably download the license application on your computer. As soon as you pass the boards I would apply and send in the required fees. Send your application via express mail overnight so it gets there quickly. You'll also have to verify your test score to the Virginia board. That's a form you'll get off the Virginia board's website and mail to the North Carolina board. That'll cost you a small fee too, around $15.00, I guess. Express mail that letter too. It'll probably take a few weeks to receive your Virginia license. Hey, good luck.

Thanks for the information! A gal in who is in my class told me she thought it took 2 MONTHS to transfer! I about fell over, so I decided to come here and find out. I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know! I feel so much better and really look forward to my relocation to Virginia!

You may be able to get a temporary from Virginia. It took about a week for me to get my temp. from NC (I moved from south carolina) but it did take about 2 months for the permanent one to come after I'd submitted everything North carolina required..
