License question

Hey guys, I figure someone here may have some info that can help me. I am a nursing student in Indiana. After I finish school, I want to work in Tennessee. One job I was interested in starts in June and I'm trying to figure out how I need to test for my license. Would it be easiest for me to just take the NCLEX in Tennessee or Indiana and transfer it? Can I even test in Tennessee as an Indiana resident? I am just confused about the best way to get a Tennessee license in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for any help anyone may have.

Hello,

If you are interested in ever returning to Indiana, you may want to take your boards there then transfer your license later. But your best bet is to contact the Tennessee state board of nursing and find out what you must do to transfer a license (also, the Indiana state BON if you plan on ever returning there). From my understanding it isn't too difficult to transfer a license, but I have heard some states are more difficult than others. But no matter how much advice you get from here or anyone else, you will get the most accurate advice by contacting each BON directly. Good luck!

Found this online:

Tennessee Board of Nursing

(615) 532-3202 local or 1-800-778-4123 nationwide

You will most likely get a voicemail message. Just know that sometimes it can take a while for you to get a response.

I would contact the state BON...if you are planning on getting that first job in TN, then you should fill out the application for a TN license by examincation....when you take the NCLEX, which you could take in IN(as it is a NATIONAL exam), your results would go to the TN board, which would issue you a TN license. When you moved, you would have to notify the board of your new address and your license would need to have your correct address on it.

but, I stress, contact the state BONs....they know exactly what you need to do. Also, if there is ANY chance that you are planning to work in IN, than get your license from IN, then you can endorse into TN. good luck!
