License by Endorsement

Does anyone have any experience with endorsing their license while on contract in another state? How long did it take to obtain the license? I'm transferring from NV to NJ but also willing to be licensed in PA if needed. In NV they test at a minimum of 12x a year, $50-$180 or so per test (all of mine have been the $50 ones but some other colleagues have been more expensive). What is the minimum testing requirements and how much are the tests? Thank you for any help! Any experience is welcome, not just transferring to NJ or PA.

I'm in Pa & typically get tested 2-3X per month at a cost of between $55 and $130 per test. In addition if you transfer to PNAP (our monitoring program) you will be expected to attend weekly nurse support group meetings at a cost of $25 per week.

Specializes in PDN; Burn; Phone triage.

I would contact the BON to see if they will let you transfer at all while in an active monitoring program. Some states won't. Also not sure how far along you are in monitoring but if they will let you transfer, you usually have to start over...

Oh yeah that also. A nurse transferred from another state and she did have to start all over here. They did not make her go to rehab but everything else

I started this journey in RAMP (NJ). They are a straight 5 years. Test at least 2x month. If you go to Quest labs no collection fee for urines. Tests are $40-$65 a pop depending on option. Most frequent was option 5 which was $53. They test for a bunch of different options. Nurse support group 1x week for the whole 5 year contract. That was $60 a month. 12 Step meetings 4x week. The annual fee is $100.

My complaint was in NJ but since I was also working in PA at the time I self reported to PNAP because NJ was damn well going to report me anyway. So I did about 3 months with RAMP(NJ) then switched over to PNAP(PA) as my primary since I kept my job in PA. And yes I had to test for both states for about 3-4 weeks to bridge the transfer.

PNAP is 3 years (takes about 3.5 by the time your formally done). They test you mostly 2x month rarely 3x but it can happen, you never know. The urines are $29 a pop for option 3 which is the most frequent. Other option was like $49. Collection fee at my place was $25. Aftercare x1 year. Which is okay if you have health insurance, that way you only have to worry about the co-pay. You have to go to 12 step meetings 3x week and caduceus meetings 2x month. The annual fee is $300.

I have since transferred to CA (long story). Hope this helps.

Update: NJ license is still pending and RAMP which is the alternative to discipline program has accepted me plus my "time served" in NV. I will pickup where I left off and will finish the remainder of my 5 year contract. It's comparable. I was selected today for the $53 dollar test. I'm familiar with affinity but the difference between NV and NJ is that the nurse support meetings are debited from affinity for NJ, in NV it was paid directly to the group facilitator. NJ/RAMP also like more documents uploaded on affinity vs submitting quarterly documents directly to the NV board. Life goes on.

NV has updated their policy for drug testing as of May 1st and require a min of 24x per year so it sounds like it is similar to other programs. I still feel for anyone not working or those in states where cost of living is low so the wage is comparable. It gets expensive! I'm still waiting for my license so not working for 3 mos is catching up quickly.

How did your transfer to CA go? We're you finished with the program before applying? Didn't CA make you start over? I'm hoping to go back home to CA but I have a DUI from 4 years ago before nursing

Someone I know transferred to California and it took about 7 mos for their license to be endorsed but they were already 3 years into their program and California picked up where they left off. On the other hand, I knew of someone who moved to Washington state and they were completely forgiven and no additional paper work or discipline necessary. Awesome for them! My license was finally posted. I started the process in December, and in June it was issued. WOOHOO!

How far were you into the program when you transferred to CA? Interestingly enough I am in PNAP due to NJ RAMP. I was doing travel nursing and applied to NJ and have to do monitoring here in PA becasue I live and practice here. My question is if anyone has heard of NJ honoring PNAP being a 3 year program (instead of their 5 year) since I don't live nor practice there.

The transfer went smoothly. I was not finished in PA/NJ. I had 2 years to go in PA and 3.5 more to go in NJ. CA didn't count any time already served but they didn't make me repeat rehab or aftercare. I just completed my first year in CA. The testing is nuts! I just completed my first year , they tested me 54 times. I had no dilutes, no missed check ins, no positives. What a racket. Anyway you can be done in CA in 3-3.5 years so when it's all said and done I'll be finishing up on time as if I had stayed in NJ.
