License by endorsement

Published

I need help figuring out in what order I start my RN license transfer to Florida. I know what steps to take, just don't know the order to start. I've done my fingerprints, I've gathered up my criminal history and started the application. I don't want to finish the app and be denied because they didn't have all the stuff I need to mail.

Look send the application in first so they have your social security number, address etc. Then submit everything else. Call the BON(board of nursing) to find if they have a timeline once the application is received.

Just to clarify, you are not "transferring your license" from one state to another. You are applying by endorsement for a second license. If granted, you will have 2 licenses in 2 states to be maintained. When your original license comes due for renewal, you can choose to renew, place it inactive, or let it lapse (not recommended.) But please understand that it does not move with you, or cease to be valid when you receive a new license and/or move to another state. Good luck with your application.

I only see and option for endorsement. I will keep my licence here in Illinois and hold one in Florida was my understanding as well. Also after digging through Floridahealth.gov I found a list in order of priority regarding the steps.

Then there's your answer. The Florida BON will tell you exactly what they are looking for.

And since you mentioned "my criminal history" in your original post...if you do have a criminal record, be doubly sure that you're sending them all the documentation that they ask for. If you're not sure how to answer a question on the application regarding criminal history, consult an attorney as we can't give you legal advice.

And should the Florida BON want you to make an appearance to discuss your criminal record, be sure to have that attorney at your side when you face them. BONs are not your friend. And keep in mind the fact that just because IL gave you a license doesn't mean that FL automatically has to.

Good luck.

Future advice for all other endorsements. It is better to call and ask the BON as they have the most recent information...
