Lewis University-Fall 2014 ABSN

Published

Hey!

Is anyone else on here thinking about doing the fall pre-term, spring 2015 cohort at Lewis? I was just at the information session yesterday and it got me a bit more interested in the program although I'm still waiting for a response from another program.

Oh and if anyone who is currently in the program or has already completed the program would like to share their experience and opinion that would be great and helpful!

no one else is planning on attending Lewis?

I've decided to go to LewisU, it would be nice to meet others who plan on attending there as well or currently attend Lewis

I will be attending Lewis for the evening BAC to BSN program starting this Fall 2014. When will you be starting?

Hi guys, I am taking the KAT exam tomorrow night followed by the information session. Did you guys already take the KAT? How was it?

agutow15- I will be doing my pre-term in the fall and my nursing courses, hopefully starting spring 2015

kbdcc2- Yes I've taken it. It wasn't that bad at all. I was really worried about the math part but the calculator made it much easier and I didn't do too well on the science portion but luckily they didn't count that

love.live.laugh- That's awesome! Good luck with patho the professor is pretty nice and if you study everything off of her powerpoints, you will do just fine. All the pre-term classes fly by, but just remember you have to take all of the pre-term classes in the same semester in order to get the discounted rate. That wasn't necessarily explained right off the bat to my cohort so many of us were scrabbling to get them in last semester. Let me know if you have any questions as I will be going through Pre-Immersion next Friday (which is basically orientation) and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about pre-term.

Kbdcc2- I agree with love.live.laugh. I thought it was quite easy especially because you can use the calculator on the computer for the math section. They only base it off of your math and reading scores and you have to pass with a 80% in each. They make you take the other sections as well, but those scores don't really count as they state that they will teach you all the science and writing methods they want you to know. You only get to take this test once, so if you want some practice, I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up the KAT study guide book which I thought was a pretty decent review.

what do you mean by taking them in the same semester? I took ethics at a local CC this summer so I have theology, my cultural course and patho which I will be taking during the fall (patho-in person and the other two online)

Did you have to do anything before the pre-term such as health insurance, cpr, immunization etc. or do you just have to provide all that stuff before the nursing courses begin?

a little off topic but is anyone looking for a roommate or know anyone looking for one? Does lewis provide a place where students can connect with others looking to share an apartment off campus?

Also, which books did you need for the theology, patho and cultural diversity course? Are you selling any of them and would I be able to rent them or purchase them through amazon instead of the bookstore?

You have to take the Patho and the 2 mission courses within the same semester which it sounds like you already have planned. The patho class is 12 weeks and the other two online courses are 8 week courses and they tend to over lap so be prepared for that (at one time I was taking all 3 courses and working full time so that was a little rough). You do not have to provide proof of health insurance, cpr, immunization records, or official transcripts until you pass the pre-term courses. At that time, they will send you an acceptance letter and a packet of information regarding everything they need from you by the time you start your cohort.

I'm not sure if Lewis provides a place where students can connect for future housing, but I would try the campus center and ask around (there might be a housing board).

I didn't have to take Cultural Diversity at Lewis ( I took that mission course at JJC) so I am not sure what books you will need for that course. As for patho and theology, the professors will post their syllabi with more than enough time to obtain the books from amazon. I don't know if the books will be the same when you take it or if they will move to a new edition so I would just wait until you get the syllabi.
