length of contract with travel agency

I plan to move to another state and will need a temporary job. I thought about taking a travel nurse assignment but am concerned about the length of the contract with the travel agency. I will only need a short assignment.

Do travel agency make you sign a contact with them for a specific length of time? Can you just do one assignment with the agency? Are there any penalities for leaving an assignment or contract early?

Most travel nurse contracts are for 13 weeks, however, there are shorter contracts as well some like 4 weeks 8 weeks, based on the hospitals needs. as for penatlities for leaving early those are usually addressed with in the contract itself, most are for things such as housing costs, travel costs... things like that. It generally is frowned upon if you leave a contract early unless very unusal circumstances, have come up... like a death in the family, a very sick family member, or your own illness.
