As a current student in the nursing program, even I (as well as my classmates) haven't figured out how the critical thinking part factors into the admission decision. If your overall score was high (85+) and your GPA is high (3.7+), I wouldn't worry about being accepted. However, the critical thinking questions are EXACTLY the same as what you will have to take at the end of each clinical course. At the end of the semester during finals, you will have to take another HESI for each course (fundamentals/nursing 1, psychiatric, medical/surgical, and maternity/pediatrics) in addition to your course final. The HESI counts for 10% of your final grade and you have to pass it with an 850 or higher. If you don't score an 850, you do "remediation" which is a bunch of questions e-mailed to you that you have to e-mail back to the professor within a certain time period. They use it as a way to determine who will have a decent shot at passing the NCLEX and who may not. When you get your scores back, if it's an 850 or higher, don't worry about it. The only thing I can think is because they are worried about students not passing the NCLEX, that they may look at the critical thinking scores to determine who they admit and who they don't...but I wouldn't let it stress you out because you do practice a lot of NCLEX style questions throughout the semester.

Thank You very much for your response. So I understood that I shouldn't worry about the Critical Thinking part of the entrance HESI exam. My GPA is 3.8 and overall score for HESI is 92% (not including Critical Thinking part). Some questions in the Critical Thinking part were 100% clinical. I had no idea what I supposed to answer because I am not a nurse. And it is very disturbing that I still don't know my score. I have been told that I will receive an email from HESI with my score for the Critical Thinking part, but still no news. Also, when i spoke with an adviser before taking the exam, I have been told that I will have at least 4 hours for the exam and even more if necessary. After 2.5 hours of taking the exam, I have been told that I have only 30 min left :nailbiting:

I received an email from HESI. I was able to see my scores but not for Critical Thinking part. This is so confusing. I am going to call them tomorrow.

I just found how to look at critical thinking results. There is + next to Admission Assessment Report link. I got 850 :nailbiting: . I don't know if that is enough to pass, or I supposed to take the test again. Obviously I did not answer correctly on Prioritization of Care questions. Now I am going to go see an adviser in the college. :no:

For the HESI you take during finals, an 850 is considered a good score (it's the passing mark). It's very well known at this point that the NCLEX pass rate dropped considerably last year (I've heard, although it is just rumored, that it was down in the 60's, but I don't know the exact number) and many more people have been dropped from the program (or switched to generic after being accelerated). They may be looking at the critical thinking part as a measure for admission given the low NCLEX pass rate, but who knows. Honestly, with your GPA, 92% score, and an 850 on the HESI, I really wouldn't worry...especially if you're applying to the generic program. They don't expect you to "think like a nurse" just yet and that's exactly what those critical thinking questions are about. I wouldn't stress yourself out too much, your scores are great.

92 seems to be a solid HESI A2 score, I got just above that and decided it was enough to give my re-test seat to another student and the admissions officer said my score was extremely high. Good work!!

I know this thread is extremely old, but I just saw the post. By now you're probably waiting for your acceptance letter (which comes in June!). The program so far is okay. They're going through a big restructuring trying to raise their NCLEX pass rate so they are all hot and bothered about their scores. They're also trying to prevent people from cheating -- apparently there's a big scandal going around where people have some of the exams, so they've rolled out a bunch of new policies. But overall, the program is good. There are some really good professors and some okay professors. I haven't had any that were absolutely, down right terrible -- some tougher than needed, but not absolutely horrible. The clinical placements are pretty decent -- Bronx VA, Hebrew Home, Bronx-Lebanon, St. Lukes, Jacobi, Montefiore, NCB, St. Barnabas are the ones I can think of. Overall, I give it a B+.

I called at spoke to ********, she told me acceptance letters will be mailed out either last friday or today. She told me that I was accepted but I would have to wait for the letter as well. Hope we all get in.
