Anyone have a quick and easy tip on the best preparation for this career change?

You are an RN, so, you can take the Vickie Milazzo course. Just call them for information. This is advertised above most of the threads here on Allnurses.com. You will be certified after successful completion of the course and taking the exam.

Now, there are courses you can take, Kaplan is one.

If you are truly interested in a career change, go for it, especially if you are interested in the legal aspects of nursing.

Many jobs out there inhouse and starting your own business as well.

Siri's sources are perfect for obtaining the credentials. I would suggest you also think about your personal style of working, how much direction, Routine or supervision do you like, how independent you like to be and ALSO, can you live with a variable income? Many LNC jobs are as contractors to many legal entities. You should also see what the competition level is in the area where you live. The LNC associations website can give you a feel for that. Working for yourself takes a lot of business skills, do you have a mentor to assist with that? As you look into this, take a day and start calling law firms to ask if they have used or would consider using a LNC. The first step to seeing if this is your cup of tea is to see if you can market yourself, which will be a large part of what you would do every day. Just thoughts! Good luck!
