Has anyone ever left their job as an NP after only a few months? I took my first NP job in May and it's not a good fit for me. I went into a specialty and hate it. I took it quickly (in order to have a job) and am not compensated very well. The schedule is great though - I do have to admit, but Im not sure that is enough. I have been casually looking online at positions but I don't feel right leaving after only 5-6 months.
Anyone else ever face this dilemma - and if so - what did you do?

I know it is difficult when you aren't happy where you are, but I would not quit until you find another position. Take your time to really look and if something comes up that you may seriously consider see if you can spend time there following another provider. One thing that I learned the hard way is that the grass isn't necessarily greener someplace else and when I was desperate to get out of a job I made a poor decision. Best of luck!!

I took a part time NP job at a place where I did clinicals, loved it and the schedule, but was offered a FT job about 3 months after I started at another facility. I was having a hard time making ends meet and was bouncing back and forth from two jobs, very stressed all the time. I accepted the FT job after about 3 - 4 months at the other place, which was really hard as I loved my job / team, but it was the right move for me.
You might remember that when you were a nurse, you had a 90 day "trial" period to see if it was working out. Kinda the same thing here, you've tried it out, realized it's not for you, and want to move on. I would just make sure I had a new job lined up, all the paperwork signed, and the position formally accepted before letting your job know. In the end, you need to be happy to do a good job, and it's just not worth all the stress that being in a job you don't like causes just because you have only been there a few months.
Thanks - you're right. I am still working on the side as an RN b/c I can't make ends meet. This new position I'm entertaining is a full time position. It has not been formally offered to me, but I would never quit my job before I had another one lined up.
LOL - ya know, we're pretty similar. I took my PT NP job quickly after graduation, knowing that I'd have to work as an RN on the side, not realizing how hard it would be! If I'd known then what I know now and all that...
