What advice would you give someone going in to leadership position for the first time ?

Is this a job you are applying for or a homework question? I am assuming a homework question as your classmates have posted the came question.
We are happy to help but we will not answer the question for you....what has your research told you?
Not job and i make research and i read about it but i want opinions and advice many persons .
The term homework in the US is something students must do for their school. It has nothing to do with a job.
There are many ways to be a good leader.....Authoritarian
The authoritarian approach involves the leader telling the employees what is to be done and how to accomplish it. This approach allows for minimal input from staff. This approach may be most appropriate for those situations in which a majority, if not all, of the information needed to solve the problem is available, there is very short time available, and the entire team is motivated.
Participative
This approach is nearly the direct opposite of authoritarian. When the participative style is used, the staff is included in the decision-making, although the leader often has the final say in approving or disapproving the decision. This approach should not be viewed as a weakness, but as a strength, in that the leader is attempting to be inclusive of the team members. This approach is often used when the leader has part of the needed information and the staff has the other information. By working together it is anticipated that a more inclusive solution will be identified.
Delegative
This allows the employees to make decisions while the leader is still responsible for the decisions. This approach is commonly employed when staff is able to analyze a situation and determine what needs to be done and how. Leaders are not always able to do everything; having the option to delegate may prove to be invaluable. This approach offers staff the opportunity to expand their scope of responsibility. It should not be viewed as an option where the manager can place blame in the event that something negative occurs. This approach should be considered when the leader has the confidence that the staff will be able to accomplish the tasks.
Laissez-faire leader takes a hands-off approach to leadership, allowing subordinates to make decisions. The mantra of a laissez- faire leader is “Hire good people and get out of their way.” The laissez-faire leader defers to the person he has selected for a given position to provide the leadership in that area. This type of leader offers incredible autonomy to subordinates which isn't always beneficial and requires the hiring of competent individuals
