Leaders in Nursing

I am new to this website. I have only posted a few threads so far and I though they were pretty interesting. Apparently the topics were pretty much discussed ad nauseum in the past.

But here goes another question for everybody.

In the context of my recent return to school and opportunity to think about the nursing profession as a whole, I would like to ask all of you out there if you have any role models or historical figures as nursing leaders.

Who do you admire in nursing? Would any of the leaders in nursing history be of interest? Who do you admire in terms of nursing leadership, business or education?

Would it be someone you work with directly? Or would it be a well known figure in a national organization? What are the characteristics you admire?

I struggle to find leaders myself.

Hey, where is everybody? Don't we need nursing leaders? Someone to round the troops and lead us in a certain direction?! Oh, yeah, nursing doesn't have a direction...why doesn't anyone care about that? Let's just keep nursing the same way it is now because I don't see leaders or anyone talking about nursing leaders anywhere! Lets just complain about this profesion until the cows come home I guess.
