LCC Accelerated Program - what's it like?

Can anyone who is in the accelerated program or who has completed it give me an idea of what your days are like? I have two young children and no family nearby (with the exception of my husband, of course) and I am trying to figure out if this is going to be doable for me. My kids have never been in daycare before (ages 2.5 and 8 months) and I don't even know where and when to start looking. I am hoping to gain entry to the program next fall...if I have enough points, that is. I should have approximately 55 points then.

I would really appreciate any advice that you can give me.

I can share with you my experience of the accelerated program. I was part of the first group of students who went through the program. There were alot of students who had kids in my class, I would say about half of the students did. There were also many students who worked, I personally worked 20-25 hours a week.

Each class lasts 6-7 weeks and the first week or two of each rotation is the busiest. All of the labs are usually got out of the way at the beginning. They did alot of the class content online so you don't have lecture in class every week.

You have to be pretty flexible because clinicals are days, nights and weekends. Each 6-7 weeks your schedule changes. We generally didn't find out our schedule for our next rotation until right before it started. They mainly use Lansing facilities for clinicals but there are some require a bit of a drive. For peds most students go to Mott Childrens Hospital in Ann Arbor. I had daytime clinicals which are usually 7-3, night time clinicals from 3-11 and daytime Sat/sun clinicals.

I also plan to start the program next fall. I just have pharmacology to finish up! I have an 8 month old child, but he's been in daycare since he was 5.5 weeks old. My mom watched him evenings starting at 2.5 weeks so that I could take classes last spring. If you need to find daycare, my lady is in Haslett, but she's WONDERFUL and very flexible. Several of her moms are in school, I think two of them are trying to get into nursing programs at LCC, though traditional and not accelerated. We actually switched to her center just a few weeks ago because our last sitter was awful, but I've been very impressed so far, and she's really willing to work with parents to make their lives as easy as possible.

I am from the grand haven area and was also thinking of doing the lpn-rn at LCC. There is a group of us who are considering it. The director of nursing seems very helpful. I was wondering how much time is actually spent on campus? If anyone knows please share, Thanks
