LBCC transition course

Published

I am in the ADN20 course at long beach city college to try and get into the 3rd semester of the RN program. Can anyone tell me what the department exam is like? should i be studying out of the NCLEX-RN or just go back and review all my medsurge? any tips would be helpful. thanks!

How was the department exam? I am assuming that you have finished the ADN20 course. I have been wondering myself what the exam may include. Sorry, that you did not get any response to your thread. I subscribed to your thread hoping to get an answer myself. I am currently waiting to see if I get into ADN20. Heading to LBCC today to find out what my status. Thanks

hello adro! how long did u w8 to get in the bridge program at lbcc?

it was very quick applied in Jan 10 got my acceptance march. transition class started may (9 weeks) and the program started august (2 semesters). school accepts by GPA. i have all my prereqs done and a good gpa. i heard you dont need to have it that high, but you need at least all A's in your core classes (anat/phys/micro) and >2.5 for GEs. My classmate told me when she applied last year she had everything but her speech and they denied her acceptance. so have all your classes!

no worries, time told me my answers. the department exam was not too bad if you know your stuff. probably helps if you took your LVN recently. 16 of us entered ADN20, 7 of us made it through. not too bad, not too great. starting day 1- study study study! look back at adn11a/b and adn12a/b syllabus in the learning center. relearn all the information in the syllabus (including self learning modules). that is your key to passing the department exam. of course your first steps include passing the TEAS, and passing the ADN20 class (which a couple of people did not). best of luck. let me know if you made it =)

Thanks for the information. I have been a LVN since 2004. I would have been in your group if it was not for the Reading assessment test. I took if for granted and ended up having to take Read 82 last semester. I received my letter of acceptance to ADN20 this week. Class starts Oct. 19. I have already taken the TEAS exam at a different college which I had to turn down because they are not NLN accredited. I need to forward my results to LBCC. I guess I will need to start reviewing for the department exam. The success rate (7 out of 16) does not sound too encouraging.

Oh, how soon were you informed about acceptance into the RN Program after completing the transition requirements?

Thanks

it is automatically assumed that if you pass adn20, you are accepted into the program. Of course, when you start depends on if there is enough room in the class for those of you who passed. if there are only 6 slots available, only six go through (from what they told us, its the top scorers for the department exam). But if you just really think about it- there will most likely be room because a few are bound to fail out of the program. C'est la vie.

If you do not pass the department exam you are still "in the program". They allow you to take the department exam one more time with the next class. If you do not pass it the second time, you meet with the director of the program and discuss your options- probably to enter into the second semester instead of the third. but stay positive: you will pass! like i said- the first year syllabus is the key.

our grade for the class was posted a few days after we took our final. the department exam was one week after our final, but the entire class discusses when they want to take it; it may be the next day or a week later... they do not recommend to wait much longer. we found out less than a week within taking the department exam if we passed or not via phone call. We met about a month later to discuss the next step which was basically our requirements for starting (physicals, vaccines, uniforms)

hope this helps! congratulations on your acceptance. as an AP student, i had a lot of questions too with not many answers so just let me know if you need anything.

thanks for all the info adro!

one last question...i took the math assessment test and i says on my results that i have met the college math requirement for graduation.....does that mean that i dont have to take any math classes to get in the program? i asked the counselor the same question and he said that im done with my math for an associate's degree...i just wanna double check! thanks

the whole requirements for entrance and requirements for graduation are unclear to me. our class was told some different things regarding graduation (even though all our classes fulfilled the requirements for admittance into the program, for whatever reason, it has changed for some students in order to graduate) Last that i heard, which is recent to this years catalog, the math requirement went up a class. i wouldn't be able to honestly answer because i took math that satisfied the requirement, not the assessment. your best bet is to go to Lorraine Blouin is very knowledgeable about our requirements and actually cares as a counselor.

I just got into the ADN20 Transition class at LBCC... started 2 weeks ago... any advice? I'm feeling really overwhelmed. I've been out of LVN school since 2010. I'm looking through all the self learning modules in the catalog... what else should I look at to prepare for the mid and final exams?

Thanks! :)
