Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice/information on the following..

I am currently relocating from Chicago, IL to Las Vegas, NV. I am an LPN with 1 year experience and need a job ASAP.. where should I look? anyone hiring right now?

Specializes in Care Coordination, MDS, med-surg, Peds.

Las Vegas has a ton of extra stuff you need to work there, like health cards, sherrif background checks, etc., before you can work. Also, NV isn't a compact state (I don't think) and it may take awhile to get your license unless you already have obtained a NV license. Another thing to consider, is that Nurses from CA go to NV to try to find jobs because CA has wayyyy tooo many, so that might make it difficult. Also, Las Vegas is a dirty, loud and expensive town to live in. Are you sure you wanna move there?? LOL Best wishes!!!

Specializes in Hospice, corrections, psychiatry, rehab, LTC.

The obvious answer is long term care and rehabilitation facilities. Healthsouth has a significant presence here, and they hire LPNs. Few local hospitals hire LPNs. Some state agencies also hire LPNs. You can search all available Nevada state jobs at http://hr.nv.gov.

Nurses don't need health cards or sheriff background checks. These are mainly for food service industry workers and some people working in the gaming industry.

You must submit fingerprint cards at the time of application to obtain your license by endorsement for a state background check. The Nevada State Board of Nursing can give you guidance on this. You can find them at http://nevadanursingboard.org/. Nevada issues a temporary 30-day permit which allows you to work while your background check is being run. There are no extensions. Licenses are verified online, as the NSBON has discontinued the issuance of license cards.
