Lansing Community College 2011 accelerated nursing program alternate list

Hey Acceleratedorbust,

I was an alternate last year. What it means is you still have a shot at making it in, but it all depends on what the people who got accepted decide to do. It also depends a lot on luck because they randomly assign an order to the alternates, so if they tell you you're the #1 or #2 alternate, the odds are still pretty good. If however, you're #15 of 17 like I was last year, you're probably not making it in. Don't give up though, because I reapplied this year and got in with 55 points. I was SO disappointed that I had to wait another whole year to get started but once I got my acceptance letter, it made it all worth while. Hang in there! To the OP, there will be at least one alternate to get in, I know this because I just declined a seat into the accelerated program, I had 54 points. I honestly was not sure if I could of handled the fast pace of the accelerated program, so I took the traditional 2 year track instead. It was a very difficult decision, but better safe than sorry.

Yeah, I think the cutoff actually dropped this year, because last year I had 54 points but didn't get accepted. Weird! I wonder how things will change with the new point system. I had similar concerns in making my decision between the two programs, but I think the accelerated program is actually going to be easier for me because of it being partially hybrid. I'll be able to do some of the work at home and won't have to get child care for my 2yo son. I might be singing a different tune once school starts, but I'm so excited to get started! :)

Just trying to enjoy the last few months of freedom, and working. Which is great because I met some current Accelerated students doing clinicals at my job last Wednesday. Their advice? "Sleep, because I don't even have time to shower." Lol, a little intimidating, but they were all very nice and helpful. One woman gave me her contact information and encouraged me to contact her with any questions or concerns. She told me no one prepared her for how intense the first couple of weeks are as you get adjusted to the program, so prepare to be unprepared I guess!

I apologize for the very late reply. I spoke to Dr. Barbarba Carter, who just recently retired. She recommended the 2 year traditional track. I also spoke to another student who also recommended the 2 year track as well. Basically, it comes down to whether or not you can handle the quick pace of the accelerated track. I believe I could have, but to be on the safe side, I decided to take the slower paced route.

Anyhow, we have another orientation this Thursday morning, and Lab orientation the day after, I'm so excited! If I remember correctly from my accelerated acceptance letter, classes for the accelerated program starts in mid September? Regardless, like anything else in life as long as you work hard, I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck to the both of you!

Thank you, both! Jambenlaya, I was at orientation June 30 and I DID get a sit, thanks to folks like SpartyCam. Sparty, I keep hearing about the fast pace, too, but, with no specifics. Did you talk with anyone in the program about the pace? On W, I'm meeting with a student in the program, to find out her impressions. I agree with you, I'm a little hesitant, too, but, when I think about it, I haven't heard any specifics and I have no outside influences: SO, young children, work, etc. I have a little time to decide and working hard to do so! :) Any input appreciated.

Jambenlaya, you were 15 out of 17 alternates last year? Wow. This year they started with only 6 alternates. When all 6 got in, they added 8 but think it's likely that only 1 will leave the program.

Hello Ladies:

First off, congratulations to you all, by now most of you have completed the program. I am a nursing student at LCC, and I will be applying to the accelerated program during the Spring 2014. As I was reading your comments, I noticed that there were some mixed feeling and hesitation about the intensity of the 2^nd degree program.

I was hoping to get some feed -back form you all as previous students, as to how the fast pace went for you. Would you recommend the accelerated program or not?
