Yesterday I accepted the formal job offer from HR for a full-time night position in a progressive care unit!
I am very excited, but also very nervous. I don't know too many details yet (still waiting on a series of e-mails and I go to work this wednesday to fill out a bunch of paperwork) but I know the 13th-14th I will be in general orientation and for the rest of the week I will be in nursing orientation.
I will start working on the floor the following week. I was told my orientation would be 6-8 weeks...but I feel like that isn't enough time. A lot of new grads who start out in critical care seem to have orientation periods of 12+ weeks. Being in progressive care, we are trained to take care of critically-ill pts...and I could get floated to ICU if they are short-staffed.
Any tips on how to be successful at this job? I already started reviewing critical care stuff, but of course I still need to review drugs and all of that stuff...it's just very overwhelming! I am excited, though!
