Labor and Delivery or Special Care Nursery

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Published

Hello all,

I currently work on a Med-Surg unit and just had my interview in hopes of transferring back to Maternity. I previously worked in Postpartum/Antepartum/Gyne at a different hospital. At my hospital, all nurses work on Postpartum, with a specialty in either L&D or SCN. During the interview, I was told that there will be positions available in both.

I am on the fence as to which one I would pursue if I obtained this job. Just wondering what were people's thoughts out there...Labor and Delivery or Special Care Nursery? Pros...Cons?

Thanks!

I think it should be dependent on what you prefer....working with laboring women or sick infants? Where do you see yourself in the future? Do you have any goals of doing only L&D or NICU? Both will require training and can be rewarding. It really is up to you. Good luck and I wish you all the best!
