Hello everyone,
As you can tell I'm new here, just signed up today. My goal is to become a labor and delivery nurse. I was wondering if there is any way that I can start classes online and if anyone has an idea on the cost since I am a new mom. What classes do you recomend I take?
thanks a bunch,
lisa

It depends on your education.

Congrats on your baby :).
Since this was posted in pre-nursing you're just starting out? If that's the case, I'd check into colleges near you that have nursing programs, decide which one would work best and go from there. You could probably do most of your classes on-line if you wanted. Personally (and I'm a mom, too) it was easier to go to class for me because I'd get busy at home and not get classwork done, but others love on-line classes. Pace yourself--it's better to start out slowly and get good grades than to burn out before you even get going.
Cost really depends on the school--often community colleges have the best prices. All the college info should be on-line which should make your decision easier.
Good luck :).

Depending on if you have any college credits already, you may or may not have to take some classes.
Find a school, and find out what classes are required. If you do have any college credits, and they can be used, look at the grades. If you made C's, definitely you would have to repeat them. If B's, then it all depends on how the school does it's entry requirements. (I had a couple of B's that I had to retake b/c GPA is how my school does its entries each semester.)
Any science courses that you may have can't be over 5 years old in most cases..more or less depending on your program. So, if you don't have sciences such as Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology, you would have to take those. However, if you plan on stretching your courses out until after your child goes to school, you may want to consider taking your science courses last. You don't want to have to take them all over again b/c of the 5 year rule....you never know how long it will take to get in even after you apply.
So, general courses may include English, Algebra and/or Chemistry, Intro to Psych, Developmental/Life Span Psych, Speech, Humanities.....etc..... Like we all have said, it depends on the program you are trying to get into. You may need to take remedial courses as well, if you need help with math, etc. If you have never been to college, I'm sure after you apply to the college, you will be required to take an English and Math test to see where you need to be placed.
Good luck to you, and welcome to Allnurses.com! :)

Hi and welcome to Allnurses.com!
Check out local community colleges in your area to see if they have a nursing program. It's an associates degree: pre-reqs Plus 2 years of nursing school.
GOOD LUCK!
