You can start by figuring out where you plan to attend nursing school. You will need to attend an LPN or RN program (RN's more likely hired into OB). In order to get started, you will need to get some testing and "prerequisite" course work done first. Some courses can be taken online or by correspondence, but NOT generally nursing school itself. You will need to attend classes and plan on also attending clinical experiences in hospitals, nursing homes, home health/community health agencies, etc. There are no schools specific to labor/delivery nursing. You will have to study general nursing material first, then graduate. Then, after passing the NCLEX (board) exams, you are free to seek employment in L/D (or other specialties as you choose).

All the above is why I recommend you figure out what program you plan to attend and ask for a degree plan there.

I wish you the best. Welcome to allnurses.com and to the OB forums!

Lists schools by type and location. Good luck.

Also, if you check out that site, you can likely get info on how much it costs from start to finish for each program. Some programs are very good at listing ALL costs; tuition, books, supplies, vaccinations, uniforms, etc.

GOOD LUCK AGAIN!!!
