I will graduate in may and I have spoken with the hiring coordinater at seton for new grads. I am also interested in L&D and she let me know those jobs are hard to get for new grads . She said most interested in that field work in med/surg and eventually transfer. Let me know if you have a different experience because that's what I would like to do after graduating.
Thanks candiam.. yeah, since i posted this I have also been in touch with the recruiter and hiring manager at brack, and they are not hiring for L&D ANYWHERE right now.. sad!! So now I'm thinking either MedSurg, ICU, or ER for some good clinical experience, then transfer. Not ideal, but I guess we gotta take what we can get! I know St. Davids will be hiring for L&D at North Austin Medical Center, but the word is Seton offers much more nurse support and slightly better pay.

I'm an RN in Austin.. Just graduated in Dec 07 and have taken some time off to stay home with my baby. I am trying to decide where to get a job now!! I want to know what the best hospitals are work for as a Labor & Delivery nurse. I'm more drawn to Seton at the moment because of its Magnet status and because it's non-profit.. but I have connections at St. Davids and am not totally opposed to that either.
So does anyone work in L&D in Austin?? Where do you recommend working and why??
And what do you think about Brackenridge?
