Kwantlen Polytechnic University Nursing Post-Baccalaureate Program

Hi everyone!

I recently received an offer of admission to Kwantlen's BSN Post-Baccalaureate Program in which you can get your Bachelors in Nursing in 27 months. This program is to commence in Sept 2013.

I was wondering if anyone has any feedback regarding this program. What's it like compared to the Undergraduate BSN 4-year program at Kwantlen? How is the program in general compared to other BC Nursing Programs? etc.... Any help or information is appreciated!

Hey prospects,

From the information session I attended, the intake for Fall 2013 was based on date of application. They received around 150 applications for the Fall 2013 intake. However, they mentioned that as they get more applications in the coming years, they could change the admission basis to be based on CGPA rather than date of application.

In essence, as there are more competition/applications, they will have to re-evaluate the way they base offer of admissions.

I graduated in 2008 with economics degree, but i took my pre reqs at vcc. I was short listed twice at bcit but never got an offer, but luckily kwantlen offered me a seat )) Now i am wondering is it possible to work during the program...

I am on the same boat and want to work during the 27 months we are in school. I also asked the same question when I attended the information session. They mentioned that its not 100% impossible to work full-time, but not recommended at the same time. If anything, maybe we can work part-time.

Hey al0a,

I graduated last year because I just did the straight 4 years for my undergrad, I really wished I did some co-op! I think that would have helped a lot more with job hunting after I graduated. Did you graduate already?

I haven't gone to the info session, I only heard about the program from a friend who also applied this cycle. She got into another school in Jan. so she's going to stick to that even though it's a 3 year program. Also, I know a family member who went to Kwantlen to do the refresher course for Nursing to take the CRNE.

I did my undergrad at UWO in Health Sciences :) when did you graduate?

And same here! I've been looking across forums to see if anyone is talking about this Post-Baccalaureate program, but all I've come across so far are in regards to the regular 4-year BSN Program in Kwantlen. Have you heard anything about this program? Apart from the info-session I went to today, I have not heard anything about this program.

@ al0a: I forgot to answer your question, most of the information I know about the program is from the website. I have come across that FAQs page too!

A question to all: Has anybody found it a bit much or weird that they had "Apple iPad (latest model recommended)" as required technology? I mean, I have been meaning to get one eventually this just gave me more reason to get it sooner than later... Though I still need to save up a bit more since I'm not quite there yet. I guess I was just surprised, the days of laptops in class are too "outdated" now, tablets are in! Oh dear, makes me feel old haha!

Yes, I graduated in May 2012 :) After graduating, I decided to work for a year before applying into any nursing schools.

I did find it weird at first that they required an apple iPad as one of the school supplies! But they did mention and explain in the information session that since the course is delivered using a blended format (majority online), they make use of the iPad apps to make assignments more 'interactive' and interesting.

What made you choose kwantlen over other schools?

I have an ipad 2 but i'm not gonna upgrade to to the "latest model", theres barely any differences between any of them anyways. Probably we will have to buy many apps... it would be nice to talk to some of the students who are currently enrolled in the program

@ al0a: That's awesome! Did you do co-op in school? Just wondering, what field of work do you do?

I sort of figured the iPad would be used for something along those lines, I don't mind actually. I just hope it works well.

I choose to apply to Kwantlen for the shortened/accelerated program duration of 2.5 years as opposed to BCIT or Langara, which is 3 years. And as I mentioned earlier, I have a family member that went to Kwantlen, and she enjoyed it so that encouraged me to pursue it. UBC has a program that's ~1.8 years, just a year short of Kwantlen, but I missed the deadline for Sept 2013 intake. Did you apply elsewhere?

@ june_flower: Yes it would be great to just get someone's opinion who is currently doing the program. I wish they knew about this site or cared to post even a few tips or whatnot!

Yeah i do agree! I dont think we need the 'latest model'. They did say to reserve around $70-100 for apps since we need to purchase some of them.

Also, same here! I wish we could speak to someone in the program. I have a friend who is in the regular 4-year bachelor's of nursing program but she couldn't give me much input about it. She did review our program curriculum and mentioned that it seems like a promising curriculum since they cut out a lot of the 'useless' courses. :)

No, I didn't do co-op at school. I am currently doing administrative work for the company and some purchasing work! It's light work, so I can't complain! Totally unrelated to what I studied! haha

I applied to Langara and Douglas College. I got an offer for Douglas... but Langara hasn't gotten back to me yet. I am assuming I didn't make the first cut!

and haha! what a coincidence! I actually applied for Fall 2012 at UBC and I got an interview, but couldn't make it... They wouldn't let me reschedule the interview since it was a group interview. Therefore, I had plans of applying for Fall 2013 but also missed the deadline!! I didnt start applying for schools until late January this year!
