Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Advanced Entry (BSN-AE) - 2025

Published

Hi all,

Looking for some insight into the KPU Advanced Entry BSN program. I was accepted into the 2025 Spring cohort and would love to hear others experiences with:

1) Quality of program - instructors, clinical placements, online classes

2) Preparation for the workforce - did the predominantly online nature of the program cause any issues

3) Job Prospects upon completion - looking to work in Vancouver ideally

4) Has anyone pursued further education (I.e. a Masters) following graduating from KPU?

Any experiences/comments are welcome!

Specializes in BSc, Mental Health, Abnormal Psychology.

Hi there. I am in this program in semester 4. I will answer your questions as best I can.

1) Quality of program - instructors, clinical placements, online classes

Some instructors are better than others. Placements are all over the lower mainland. Some units are better than others and more supportive. Online classes can be nice but also challenging. Most of the courses online are self-taught with partner work and lots of group work.

2) Preparation for the workforce - did the predominantly online nature of the program cause any issues

The online part can be frustrating with being busy with always completing assignments. Sometimes it feels like  I am not learning anything. You learn the most during clinical! In year one I feel like I learned a lot. But mainly through the clinical rotations.

3) Job Prospects upon completion - looking to work in Vancouver ideally

When you graduate you write the NCLEX. Once you pass the exam you can work anywhere just like any nursing program.

4) Has anyone pursued further education (I.e. a Masters) following graduating from KPU?

Some students in my cohort want to pursue a Masters in nursing program.

Hey! I'm applying to this program for Fall 2025, however I'm having issues with my English course requirement. I need to do a PLAR, even though I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Do you have any experience with this? In addition, what was the admission average for your cohort/is it easy to get into?

Specializes in BSc, Mental Health, Abnormal Psychology.

I'm not familiar with the PLAR. If you have taken comparable English classes you shouldn't need that.

No clue what our cohort average was. But basically as long as you meet minimum requirements you will get in. It is who gets in thier documents in first gets accepted first.

PLAR is an assessment to prove that I took an English like course. I was a communications major and I never took an actual English course, but I did take a bunch of communications. I'm just worried I won't get my documents in on time at this point

Hi Natalie,

Just checking—have you met all the requirements yet? If I get the offer and meet everything, does that mean we're officially in the program? I applied for Fall 2025 too—maybe we'll be classmates!

You will receive a conditional offer. Once you meet the requirements, you will get the official offer after submitting all immunizations, CPR, a criminal background check, etc.

Hey I was just wondering how leaves or time off works in the middle of the program. Say I need to take a semester off, would they bump me into a different cohort or make me restart the program?
have the instructors been lenient about 1 or 2 week leaves?

Hi,

If you take a semester off, you defer your studies and will be placed into the next available semester. However, there's no guarantee this will be the very next semester, it depends on whether there are spots available. When you return, you'll join a different cohort.

As for taking a leave of one or two weeks, I'm not sure about the rules, especially since most of the program is online. I do know of one student who flew back to Ontario during the online portion and then returned to BC a couple of weeks later when her clinical started. She didn't need to take a formal leave of absence. So there is some flexibility built into the program.

Are you considering taking a leave? I'd recommend discussing it directly with the school to get the best guidance.

I also having a question about the classes date.

When I enrolled in NRSG course, the course dates showed as Sept 2 to Dec 1, 2025. However, the academic calendar runs until Dec 16. Also the clinical course and its respective dates will vary within the semester depending on which section you will be assigned. I'm thinking between Dec 11- 16 is that all online course.

The last day of classes is December 1. Instructors then have until December 16 to post final grades. There are no classes or clinical placements after the last day of classes on December 1, this is how the program is structured every semester. Everything is completed by the last day of classes.

I hope that makes sense. So your break will start on December 2 and continue until the next semester begins.

Hi all,

I'm starting at KPU for the advanced entry program this Fall 2025 and I was wondering if there is anyone else in my cohort? If so, I would love to connect! With the lack of information and the disorganization I think it would be nice to have a community to get through the next two years. I was planning to make a discord server but if anyone knows of one thats already made please let me know!
