Hello everyone, I am here. I am going to see if I can find this post through the search option.

PICO, an acronym for “Patient” “Intervention”, “Comparison”, and “Outcome”, provides a framework for posing question. This is in our text and is an acronym used in several of the articles that Dr. Sousi wants us to have read.
:redpinkheAhhhhh! I see! I've been posting a "quick reply" so these little things were not there. I can see that I am going to be totally obnoxious with these! Allyson, I am not worthy! :bowingpurYou're the best!

Allyson that is great if you want to do the research part. I would do the EBP model part and help with one of the bigger parts. I am also willing to help proofread and/or put all of the pieces together and help all of our writing styles flow......
I like the question that Allyson posted about length of time for NPO status
I am willing to do any part of the paper though -- I am flexible.
So what do you guys think about the problem that we discuss in the intro being?

Here's my "money's worth"
Page 40 of our text provides this information:
P - population - any pre-operative patient (would this also include someone such as a patient getting a colonscopy and is given a mild sedative?
I - Intervention or exposure ("what are the treatments or interventions of interest? or "what are the potentially harmful exposures we are concerned about") - in this case, increased complications related to prolonged NPO status prior to surgical procedures
C - Comparison of interest - complications in those with long periods of NPO versus those with the recommended periods of NPO
O - Outcome
And the text includes "T - Time. According to the text, the "T" is not always needed, nor the "O".
So I'm feeling a bit goofy now. Okay, thank you Abby for volunteering for the EBP part, what section is that again? I suggested that we use the Iowa Model because it is nursing based as I discussed on our board this week and there is also a great flow diagram of it in the book. Just a thought, what do you think Abby? :yeah:
Brenda, you are quick! Awesome summarization of PICO, I love it! You all are on the ball, I am still in my pajamas and have been doing pharmacology since 9:00 this morning LOL.
Allyson I like the way you pose the problem and I really like the Iowa model as well. What do you think Brenda?
See my post on page 3 of this conversation. I tried to define the PICO more. :pntlft::tinkbll:Maybe we should just make a quick wish for this project to be done!
Seriously, is our next step to create the question using the PICO format and get it out to everyone in our group by Monday, ask that everyone look at and either give it a or by Tuesday afternoon, then get suggestions, finalize the question and submit to Dr. Sousi? Does he need our question in a preliminary form first?
LOL Brenda, you are already using Tinkerbell in your posts? You are doing well, I can't even do that. I think you are right that we should use the PICO format that you quote on page three, email it everyone else in our group and get it approved and like you said have it to Dr. Sousi by Tuesday so he can read it and hopefully approve it! I will copy the PICO that you wrote down, to a word document, excellent by the way, and who wants to officially submit this to Dr. Sousi?
I think we should send an e mail to the missing group members and let them know what we discussed and what we are thinking. I also think we need to send Dr. Sousa an e mail before we go too much further. I just feel like I do not know what he is looking for so I want to make sure that we are on the right track before we put a lot more work into this.
